On October 27 from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Project Pink’d will be holding a Sexual Wellness Conference at the Hilton Omaha. While sexual health resources in our region are scant, even more sparse is the knowledge of the existence of these resources among breast cancer survivors. Breast cancer survivors find themselves asking, “What now?” after treatment. In the breast cancer community, the rebuilding of one’s life after treatment is referred to as the “Second Battle,” a battle that is much different than the first because survivors are dealing with long-lasting side effects from the treatments they receive, such as chronic pelvic pain, anxiety and depression, bone pain, lymphedema, and chest wall restriction. Side effects impact their quality of life in many ways, including sexual wellness.
The goal of the 2018 Project Pink’d Sexual Wellness Conference is to to help attendees address the growing challenges of sexual wellness. Project Pink’d will bring healthcare professionals together to provide a comprehensive agenda with an emphasis on empowerment, self-knowledge, and self-care in regards to sexual wellness among breast cancer survivors. Focus will be on four topics: Self-Empowerment – Learning to Be Your Best Advocate, Body Image After Breast Cancer, Physical Therapy – Sexual Wellness Focused (eg. Breast and Pelvic Floor) and Sexual Tools & Techniques.
The conference will be designed in a “round-robin” forum so that each participant is able to attend a session on every topic. Attendees will attend a morning plenary hosted by Project Pink’d founder Cynthia Sturgeon and then proceed to one of four rooms where they will participate in the presentations. The two morning sessions and two afternoon sessions are separated by one 30 minute break, and lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m., while attendees are welcome to interact with vendors. At 4:15, Ms. Sturgeon will thank and address attendees in the Afternoon Plenary.
Resource kits featuring vendor products and printed information will be made available to all attendees. Project Pink’d aims to give gift cards to all attendees to be used exclusively on the day of the conference among presenting vendors and exhibitors, allowing attendees to augment their resource kits with items sold by vendors.
Registration will take place in the spring. More details will follow as they become available.
