Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska

CapMidCommunity Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska (Mid) is working with low income minority women in Dawson County to reduce health disparities and link them with resources to provide clinical breast exams, mammography, and other breast cancer related screening and treatment.

The project, funded through a small grant from Komen Nebraska, uses the services of Mid’s bilingual Community Health Worker, Maria Barocio, an active and well-respected member of the Lexington community who is viewed by many as a resource for services. The project goal is to link women with disparities to the appropriate resources they need to get breast health screening. It will reach young women through WIC to provide education about breast health and risk factors and connect with older women through a variety of programs offered through the agency. Educational information about breast health will also be available at the Tyson Health Fair.

Mid will work with women one-on -one to remove language, culture, transportation and other barriers that keep them from receiving their breast health screening and utilize the stages of change model to help women move towards healthy lifestyles and regular breast health care.  The program will be evaluated by through monthly data tracking sheets, follow-up telephone surveys, and customer satisfaction surveys.
