During the months of September and October in an effort to motivate and educate women on the benefits of getting screened and detecting breast cancer early, Saunders Medical Center (along with six Saunders County High Schools), hosted breast cancer Pink Out Games. Six of the seven county’s high schools (Ashland-Greenwood, Bishop Neumann, Mead, Raymond Central, Wahoo, and Yutan) teams in softball, volleyball, football, cheerleading, girl’s golf, dance and cross country were asked if they wanted to “unite in pink.” As a participating school, team members and coaches wore pink t-shirts to Pink Out Games, where Saunders County Medical Center organizers were in attendance handing out educational materials made possible from a $4,990 Susan G. Komen® Great Plains grant. Promotional materials including sunglasses, water bottles, etc were also handed out. The business community took part by buying t-shirts to support the cause and by wearing pink every every Friday during the month of October!
In an ongoing effort, Saunders Medical Center (with additional support from Susan G. Komen® Great Plains) is also working closely with current Community Grantee Three Rivers Public Health to provide mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women.
