Thanks to a grant of up to $5,000 from Susan G. Komen® Great Plains in 2018 intended to support breast health education, pilot programs, and conference and travel grants to tax-exempt organizations, the South Omaha Community Care Council – BiNational Health Week – Women’s Health Night was named an award recipient.
The purpose of this event is to promote breast cancer awareness among Latina women in South Omaha. The program provides culturally appropriate information on breast cancer prevention and early detection including education sessions, addressing healthy eating and physical activity, self-breast exam instruction and free clinical breast exams. Women with suspicious findings will be referred to OneWorld Community Health Center or one of the three health systems for follow-up care. The event aims to touch 200 women.
