Decoding Annie Parker is a film starring Helen Hunt about the discovery of the BRCA gene. It is being offered by the film’s distributor, GATHR Films, for community showings. In October 2014, the film was shown in both Kearney and Columbus.
In Kearney, the special showing was held at the World Theatre and sponsored by CHI Health Good Samaritan. About 110 people attended the event. Tickets were sold online and at the theater that night. Hospital staff members introduced the film and distributed educational information in the lobby before and after the show. In Columbus, the film was shown at the Center 7 Theatre and sponsored by Columbus Community Hospital. Tickets were provided to survivors and other guests free of charge. Ninety-six women attended the film which included a discussion about breast cancer and breast cancer screening led by Dr. Ronald Ernst, general surgeon. Each participant received Susan G.
